| It is very important to keep your steel differential gears well lubricated for smooth running and long life. We have found the manufacturers recomendation of using a good qaulity chain wax works best - but the problem is having to take the car apart to remove the diff cases to access the steel pinion and bevel gear just to lubricate them!
This is sometimes not done due to the time requirement and in turn this can lead to premature failure of these gears. The new type "cyclic" gears in particular need to be kept well lubricated at all times.
Fitting these lubrication points is simple and does not need the car to be stripped to fit them - so it is easier to fit them than it is to lubricate the gears without them! After they are fitted good maintenence is easy and quick - just squirt the lube into the nipple and refit the alloy cap. Simple!
These machined alloy grease nipples are beautifully made and very light in weight. The knurled covers have an internal step to mate against the external step machined onto the nippple base. This ensures a good dirt seal to keep everything clean - it also looks really "trick".
They are designed to accept the nylon tube usually supplied with your aerosol chain wax can.
Simply drill a hole (correct size for tapping M6) as shown in the photos directly above the gears and wind the nipple into the pastic. It is better to tap the hole M6 first if you want a nice professional job.
Once fitted we suggest you spray some chain wax onto your gears after every days racing to keep your car running at its best and to extend the life of these gears. You may be so pleased with the ease with which you can now maintain these gears that you do it "before" each days racing rather than "after"! |
